Billy Ray Burgan, age 85 of Dayton passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the Laurels of Huber Heights. He was born in Lee Co., Virginia on February 4, 1928 the son of James Olen and Maud Jeanette (Lambert) Burgan. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in the Korean War. He attended the Northridge Free Will Baptist Church and loved Gospel music. Billy loved spending time with his family and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Johnnie (Spears) Burgan, 4 children Vicki (William) Shadle, Melissa (James) Lee, Perry (Mary) Burgan, and Michael Burgan, 10 grandchildren Levi (Kasie), Brian, Brad, Devin, Derek, Dalton, Christopher, Brittany, Sidney, Perry Jr., 5 great grandchildren, 3 brothers James Burgan, Bruce Burgan, Homer Burgan, 2 sisters Mary Ruth Riley, Rita Fern (Carl) Green, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers Harold, Frank, Eugene, and Jack, and an infant sister Sara.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, September 13, 2013 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm in the BLESSING FUNERAL HOME, 11900 N. Dixie Dr. Tipp City. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 1:00 pm in the funeral home with Pastor Tim Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City.
