IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles David
"Chuck" Fay
January 21, 1935 – April 24, 2024
Charles D. Fay, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. Charles was born in Lima, Ohio on January 21, 1935, to the late Leilah G. Fay. Dad and his mother moved to Christiansburg in 1944 from the family home in Anna, Ohio. He graduated from Christiansburg-Jackson School and went on to Bliss College and later graduated from Sinclair Community College in 1960 with a degree in Electronics. He married the love of his life, Virginia (Lukens) Fay and enjoyed 69 years of marriage. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed coaching and attending the games of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. During his early years, prior to completing his college degree, he worked at Kroger, Copeland, Roy's Super Service, AO Smith and International. After graduating from Sinclair, he went to work at Hobart Corporation as a field engineer. He retired in 1996 after 36 years. Through his time at Hobart, he developed many lasting friendships across many states. He was a consistent advocate for the kids of Christiansburg, working tirelessly at the community park. He conditioned the ball fields for the kids to enjoy ball like his family had. He was on the Village Council for 22 years and instrumental in servicing the village's septic systems until his passing. Dad was very proud of being the first member of the Christiansburg Fire Department to achieve 70 years of service. He was a faithful brother of Mt Olivet Lodge 226 for over 60 years. Participating in the Lodge gave him much satisfaction. He was an active member of the Christiansburg United Methodist Church. Dad passed on to his family what a work ethic looked like. He was never content to sit. He passed on to his sons and grandsons his love for home remodeling and automobile/small engine repair.
Dad is survived by his children David (Linda) Fay of Christiansburg, Sue (Ron) Manis of Troy, and Mike (Susan) Fay of Troy. Dad had 8 grandchildren: Brandon (Lindsey) Fay, Jacob (Sheila) Fay, Tyler (Anna) Fay, Ryan (Kyra) Fay, Allison Fay, Erika (Jeff) Moore, Andrea (Lance) Miller, and Luke Manis, 24 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Buddy was his constant companion after the passing of Virginia. Over the years, Charles developed an enduring bond with special friends: Charles (Charlie) and Susie Lyons, David and Norma Loudenback, Frank and Layanna Wayman, and John and Pat Looney.
Charles was preceded in death by his mother, Wife, and half-sister Betty Davis and her husband Donald (Peach).
