April 25, 1932 – April 20, 2018
Charles H. Short, age 85 of Dayton, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018 at Upper Valley Medical Center Hospice, Troy. He was born in Connersville, Indiana on April 25, 1932 the son of Paul Davis & Eugenia Ruth (Grussinger) Short. Charles served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Indiana State Police where he served 18 years as a Trooper. He also retired from ABF Trucking Co. where he was a Safety Inspector. Charles attended Sulphur Grove Methodist Church, where he was a past president of the Methodist Men. Charles was a member of the Indiana Chapter of the Free Masons.
He is survived by his sons Gregory (Lynn) Short of Indianapolis, Ind., Michael (Paula) Short of Fairborn, and David (Lisa) Short of Piqua; grandchildren Christopher (Courtney) Short of Indianapolis, Ind., Brian (Jennifer) Short of Lebanon, Ind., Margaret (Dennis) Furguson of Fairborn, Charles (Bridget) Short of Fairborn, Shannon Short of Piqua, and Andrew Short of Piqua; great grandchildren Aidyn Short and Nikolai Short; sisters Margaret Conrad and Mary Brewer; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 56 years Ann (Miller) Short in 2008; brothers Paul Short Jr. and James "Jimmy" Short and sisters Ruth Israel and Sarah Ridge. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend and will be missed by all that knew him.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the BLESSING-ZERKLE FUNERAL HOME, 11900 N. Dixie Dr., Tipp City. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in Charles' memory to Hospice of Miami County, P.O. 502, Troy, Ohio 45373. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.blessingfh.com .
