Obituary

David Richard DeBerry, Jr., age 63 of Tipp City, passed away Friday, May 15, 2026, at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. He was born on October 20, 1962, in Xenia, Ohio, the son of David R. Sr. & Josephine (King) DeBerry. David was raised in Xenia, Ohio and easily made friends with those he met throughout his life. After living through the ‘74 Xenia tornado, he became an unofficial Weather Chaser. He attended Wright State University and graduated from Urbana University with a bachelor’s in organizational leadership. It was at Wright State where he met the love of his life, Darcie. They married on June 21, 1986. He and Darcie spent years traveling with Myrtle Beach as a preferred vacation destination. He worked for 24 years in Lighting Sales and 13 years in Staff Development in the Staffing Industry. He and Darcie attended the Ginghamsburg Methodist Church for many years. Dave was ecstatic when their son, Cameron, was born in 2005. Dave loved spending time with Cameron and there were many “Boys Night Out” adventures. In every conversation with Dave, he talked with pride about Cameron and how blessed he felt to have such a wonderful son. Dave was a lover of animals, especially Chow Chow dogs. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed listening to the Bob & Tom Show and the Elevated Church Services.

Dave was the fun, caring uncle that all his nephews and nieces clamored to be around. Uncle Dave would get into the midst of chaos and frivolity that created a memorable, fun day. As everyone aged, Dave was always willing to dispense wisdom with a touch of fun added in. Dave was an exceptional brother. He was the go-to sage for his sister, Theresa. They balanced each other with their unique blend of humor and logic throughout their lives. Dave was also a great brother-in-law who would help with anything with his creative problem-solving skills and always made time for family.

Dave is survived by his wife of 39 years, Darcie (Mercer) DeBerry; son Cameron DeBerry; sister Theresa (Tom) Barley; sister-in-laws Cherry Thornburg and Alicia (Jeff) Smith; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; his paternal grandmother who helped raise him, Frances DeBerry; his sister Frances Ann DeBerry; his brother-in-law (Todd Thornburg), his in-laws Donald & Dorothea Mercer; and his 3 Chow Chow dogs Buffy, Cinnamon and Twister. He was a loving Husband, Father, Uncle, Brother, Friend and will be missed by all whom loved him.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at the ZERKLE FUNERAL HOME, 11900 N. Dixie Dr., Tipp City. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City.
