Obituary

Evelyn B. Alder, age 88 of Troy, left this world to meet her heavenly father on Monday, October 26, 2026, just one day shy of her 89th birthday. She was born in Jonesville, Virginia on October 27, 1937, the daughter of Maurice & Millie (Scott) Burchett. A lifelong educator and school administrator, Evelyn was known by many as Mrs. Alder; a tough but fair biology teacher and principal to many. Her career spanned more than 40 years, from teaching in a small one room classroom in rural Tennessee to local districts including Tipp City, Brookville and Northmont. In her later years, she spent many hours volunteering at The Gleaning Place (New Path Ministries) in West Milton where she most enjoyed visits from friends and former students.

She is survived by her sons Richard (Suzanne) Alder and Rodney (Jennifer) Alder; grandchildren Lee Lauren (Lucas) Trusdale and Savanna Alder; great grandchildren Alder and Avery Trusdale; step grandchildren Samantha (Andy) Lowry and Zach (Kylie) Ulrich; step great grandchildren Kole, Noah and Nash Lowry and Isla Ulrich, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her ex-husband and father of her sons Paul Alder; brother Eugene Burchett; and sister Sue Burchett. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, November 9, 2026, from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm a the ZERKLE FUNERAL HOME, 11900 N. Dixie Dr., Tipp City.
