Herbert Ellis Lewis, age 85 of New Carlisle passed away Sunday, February 28, 2010 in Belle Manor Nursing Home, New Carlisle. He was born in Harveysburg, Ohio on November 1, 1924 the son of Wilbur & Evelyn (Schoonover) Lewis. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Marines, and a life member of VFW Post #657 Riverside. He worked for Master Electric in Dayton for 21 years as a mechanic and retired from Navistar after 24 years as a mechanic. He loved NASCAR and hunting mushrooms.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Elnora Louise (Lamka) Lewis, 6 daughters Shirley (David) Lubeke of Arizona, Vickie (Henry) Jones of Texas, Tonya (Gary) Phillips of New Carlisle, Teresa (Perry) Burchett of Fairborn, Cindy Webb of Dayton, and Carolyn (Sonny) Davis of Circleville, 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, brother Wilbur (Norma) Lewis of Harveysburg, and a very special friend David Webb of Dayton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother John Lewis and a sister Lorraine Davis.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Belle Manor Nursing Home for their loving care and compassion to Herb.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in the BLESSING FUNERAL HOME, 11900 N. Dixie Dr. Tipp City. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 pm in the funeral home with Pastor Roland Albert officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City.
