Herschel K. Holmes, age 78 of Huber Heights, passed away Monday, May 7, 2012. He was born in Crab Orchard, Kentucky on December 26, 1933 the son of James & Cora (Johnson) Holmes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a former member of the Faith Presbyterian Church in Huber Heights. He was a Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop #491 of Huber Heights from 1975-2000 and was known by his family as a "Mr. Fix it" for all kinds of jobs around the house.
He is survived by his wife 37 years Sandra (Esken) Holmes, 6 children Brian & Paula Holmes of Beavercreek, Tom & Lynn Hebb of Huber Heights, Holly & Kevin Thompson of New Jersey, Richie & Melody Hebb of Middleton, Kelly & Jim Wilmoth of Charlotte, NC, and Robin Bryan of Vandalia, 9 grandchildren Anthony Santos, Chelsea & Brett Smith, Aaron Holmes, Tyler Hebb, Sara Hebb, Whitney Holmes, Abbey Corn, Lindsey Corn and Jacob Wilmoth, a brother Anthony "Bud" Homes, brother-in-law and his best friend Gary Esken, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and sisters Dallas, Charles, Earl "Red", Pauline, Sheila and Clyde.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2012 from 6-8 pm in the BLESSING FUNERAL HOME, 11900 N. Dixie Dr. Tipp City. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Paul Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City.
