Jack Hanby, age 89 of Beavercreek, formerly of Tipp City, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015 in the VA Medical Center Hospice Unit, Dayton. He was born in Dayton on July 30, 1925 the son of Paul James & Mary Vietta (Comer) Hanby. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in World War II and earned 3 Bronze Stars. He served in New Caledonia, Solomons, Philippines, and Japan during the war. He enjoyed golfing, dancing, playing cards and going to the casinos and spent many hours hunting mushrooms over the years.
He is survived by his children Paul (Debbie) Hanby, Kathleen Hanby-Armstrong, John Hanby, step daughters Melody (Doug) Pund, Laura Hilliard, Lynda VanHoose, Pat (David) Watson, Sondra "Bunny" Brooks, Cindy (Ron) Fitzpatrick, step daughter-in-law Ann Gregory, 15 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and a sister Sara Patrie, and several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 36 years Norma Hanby, his wife of 5 years Nancy Hanby, step son Robert "Skip" Gregory, son-in-laws Robert Armstrong, Danny Hilliard, Jesse VanHoose, a brother and sister-in-law Jim (Doris) Hanby, infant brother Paul Hanby, and a brother-in-law Robert Patrie.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, January 30, 2015 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at the BLESSING-ZERKLE FUNERAL HOME, 11900 N. Dixie Dr. Tipp City. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 1:00 pm in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45420 or to the VA Hospice, 4100 W. Third St. Dayton, Ohio 45428.
