Joan Dorothy
Sanborn
April 12, 1935 – May 18, 2026
Joan Dorothy Sanborn, 91, of New Carlisle, Ohio, went to be with our Lord on May 18, 2026. She is now peacefully reunited with her family who went before her, including her beloved sister Rosemarie, her nephew Eddie Joe, and her cherished granddaughter Alison Rose. Joan lived life to the absolute fullest. She possessed an adventurous spirit and traveled as often as she could, though she always meticulously planned her trips around her volunteer schedule at the American Legion Post 286. Her dedication to her community was unmatched, but her greatest devotion was to her family. The only thing Joan loved more than her time and friends at the Legion were her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. To Joan, a genetic connection was never required to be considered family; she loved them all deeply, fiercely, and equally. When she wasn't volunteering or spending time with her family, Joan could be found ruling the Bingo Hall. She was a true Bingo aficionado and will always be fondly remembered by her friends and staff at SpringHill Singing Woods Assisted Living as the vibrant player who steadfastly refused to play less than four cards at a time, keeping all her Bingo buddies laughing through every game. Her warmth, humor, and generous heart will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Those left behind to honor Joan’s memory include her sister Carol Czepiel (Ed), her children, Chris Zugelder (Paul), Anita Sanow, Nannette Lumpkins (Earl/Buz), Carl Eberle (Sue), grandchildren, April Lumpkins (Mark), Becky Sortman (Jeff), John Zugelder (Erin), Michael Berg (Carla), Nick Lumpkins (Kim), Nicolas Sanow, Dustin Sanow (Natassija), Joseph Eberle, Carlie Eberle, Lindsey Jo Zugelder, along with 13 beautiful great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Joan also leaves behind her best friend and cousin, Jackie Farrier Haught.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm at the ZERKLE FUNERAL HOME, 11900 N. Dixie Dr., Tipp City.
