Ralph Thomas "Tom" Dean, Major USAR Ret., age 77 of Englewood, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton. He was born in Akron, Ohio on May 7, 1938 the son of Mary Joann (Vargovic) Dean. Tom was a graduate of Sebring McKinley High School, Sebring, Ohio and the University of Akron. He was retired from the Army Reserves and Hobart ITW. His accomplishments include some of the founding work on development of fibre-reinforced composites for the recreational and aerospace industry. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church of Englewood and was a past member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and volunteered at Englewood Manor. Tom was an avid listener of classical and jazz music and in his youth was admired for his saxophone playing. Tom also was an avid model railroader.

He is survived by his wife Linda Kay (Rice) Dean, sons Gregory Dean of Elizabethtown, Kentucky and Gary (Teresa) of Dayton, Maine, step son Kirk (Mindy) Christian, grandchildren Kelly, Kevin, Audrey, Alex, and Matt, step grandchildren Eric (Alexandria), Matthew (Nikki) and Allen, step great grandsons Grant and Jack, brother Jerome and a sister Theresa (Andy) Hardman, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Wernow.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the BLESSING-ZERKLE FUNERAL HOME, 11900 N. Dixie Dr., Tipp City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 10:30 am at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1000 W. Wenger Rd. Englewood, Ohio 45322 with Father Tim Knepper, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Tom''s memory to the St. Vincent de Paul Society % St. Paul Catholic Church, 1000 W. Wenger Rd., Englewood, Ohio 45322.
