Robert Carroll "Smitty" Smith, age 81 of Vandalia, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at his residence. He was born in Dayton on October 20, 1936 the son of Thomas & Lena (Grabill) Smith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked at Wieffenbach Marble and Tile in Clayton for over 47 years.

He is survived by his children Chuck Waggoner, Jim (Bessie) Waggoner, Bobbie (Brian) Smith-Fister and Rhonda (Rick) Konicki; 8 grandchildren Justin (Dr. Taylor) Waggoner, Ryan Gutwein (Fiance Angie), Bryan Fister, Meg Fister, Nick (Jenna) Fister, Aaron (Jen) Fister, Elizabeth (Jon) Konwest and Nick Konwest; 6 great grandchildren; a brother Charles (Ginny) Smith and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 51 years Jane (Rhodes) Smith; infant son Ronnie; and 15 brothers and sisters. Robert was a kind and generous man who always had a joke and a smile to share with everyone and was well known for his strong, firm handshake.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm at the BLESSING-ZERKLE FUNERAL HOME, 11900 N. Dixie Dr., Tipp City. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Robert's memory to the VA Hospice "Victory Ridge", 4100 W. Third St., Dayton, Ohio 45428.
