Sandra E. Holmes, age 85 of Vandalia, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Brookhaven Nursing and Rehab, Brookville. She was born in Dayton, Ohio on September 26, 1940, the daughter of Russell & Gerladine M. (Knipfer) Esken. She was a 1958 graduate of Stivers High School where she was Prom Queen her Senior year. She was the Food Service Manager for Huber Heights Schools for over 30 years and retired in 2008. She was also a former Girl Scout Leader.

She is survived by her children Tom (Lynn) Hebb, Richie (Mary) Hebb, Kelly Wilmoth and Robin (Keith) Zimmerman; grandchildren Tyler, Sara, Abbey, Lindsey and Jacob; great grandchildren Xander, Niko, Gavin, Walker, Lynnleigh, Olivia, Owen, Olora, Greyson and Ivy; brothers Russell “Bud” (Judy) Esken and Rick (Hoa) Branch; sisters Karen (Scott) McDorman and Kim (Bob) Carter; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 37 years Herschel Holmes; granddaughter Chelsea Smith; and brother Gary Esken and sister Darlene Zollo.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the ZERKLE FUNERAL HOME, 11900 N. Dixie Dr., Tipp City. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Paul Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City.
