William Alfred Reed, age 79 of Troy, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. He was born in Greenup, Kentucky on July 2, 1944 the son of Estes & Jennie (Stevens Reed. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War where he was a helicopter gunman. He was wounded during the war and earned a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged February 16, 1969. William owned his own business for many years building fences and houses and updating houses. He retired from Koester Pavilion in Troy and then worked part-time at Milton Materials in Ludlow Falls. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, hunting mushrooms, shooting guns with his family and going to family outings like cookouts, birthday parties, Thanksgiving and Christmas. He also enjoyed his trips back home to Kentucky to visit relatives and friends. He was a proud member of the Redemption Christian Tabernacle where he supported the Feed the Children charity. He loved helping others by lending a helping hand.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Anna Joyce (Weaver) Reed; Carlene Heffelfinger, Karen Barker, Garrett Barker, Stewart (Denise) Barker, Edie Reed and Robbie Reed; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law Mark Heffelfinger.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at the Redemption Christian Tabernacle, 11780 N. Dixie Dr., Tipp City. A Celebration of William's life will be held on Friday, at 11:00 am at the church with Pastor Todd Hoskins officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City. Services have been entrusted to the Zerkle Funeral Home, Tipp City. Condolences may be sent to the family through this online guestbook.
